Mesquite Getaway – Dec-22

We stayed at the Mesquite Getaway Jan 31- Feb 28/2023. Unfortunately , we had a visitor or 2 staying with us, the entire stay. We discovered a banana on countertop with a big chunk taken out as well as rat droppings by it on day 2 of our stay. Contacted Oranj Palm and they sent out pest control. They assured us, that it was the droppings of a fruit or norway rat. They set up traps, and later closed off outside entry points. Oranj Palm also sent out a cleaner. Never found a rat in a trap, so therefore I put dog kibble on countertops to see if it was still around…sure enough it was…the kibble was gone. I repeated that, a few times. Oranj Palm sent out a different pest control company. They said the traps were in the wrong places…and tried a new strategy. We spent the entire month on edge…cleaning surfaces constantly, washing floors constantly…. as these rats carry disease. I had a small dog with me, and therefore that made it even more difficult as I couldn’t leave him alone in the evenings( as that apparently, is when the come out, at night). This carried on until the end of our stay, numerous calls to Oranj Palm…and waiting for pest control. Pest control was back, the day before we vacated, and they were certain , the rat(S) were still around as there were droppings underneath the sink. Very unsettling, non relaxing vacation to say the least. Now…in saying all of this, I realize it is not the fault of the homeowner…but Mesquite no longer has a golf course and it appears to be a haven for rats/ coyotes, as well as it being an eyesore. That could be the issue. George from Oranj Palm was as helpful and responsive as one could be, however it was extremely difficult to speak to management. I feel they could have tried harder to find me a new location (until this issue was completely resolved). I realize , that they had no inventory within Oranj Palm..but put some effort in finding me something with another rental company. Karlos(manager) said if I found a place for the last week, they would pay for it…Modernism week is full on…nothing to be found at that point. Contact from management with more compassion/care would have certainly been appreciated. I demanded a refund for a holiday that focused on rats and cleaning…and after many attempted calls , I received a small refund..absolutely inadequate. I don’t know many people that would have stayed the month considering the circumstances…but less than one week of a refund( a slap in the face).
